Old SOU GP38

WASHINGTON, NC — We never see Norfolk Southern on the south side of the river anymore. But, back in 1987 when I took this picture, they still made the run to Plymouth most days. This GP38 (now retired for 15 years) was a regular for us  in those days. This old Southern Railway locomotive, in newer Norfolk Southern paint, is seen here crossing Jacks Creek at Havens Garden after crossing the Pamlico River Trestle headed toward Plymouth.
