Roanoke River Light
EDENTON, NC — God bless men like Emmett Wiggins who was clever enough in the late 1950s to take the 1887-built Roanoke River Light down the Albemarle Sound on an old military landing craft to his place in Edenton, NC. I remember seeing it in my youth with a seaplane parked in Filbert’s Creek by the lighthouse’s perch on the Sound just west of town. He lived in it for 30 years before his heirs sold it to the City of Edenton. It has since been restored and placed on Edenton’s downtown waterfront. A copy of the same light was built some years back on Plymouth, NC’s waterfront.
