Seaboard Station - 1995
SUFFOLK VA — Suffolk’s passenger station was built in 1885 by Seaboard and Roanoke Railroad. It’s first passengers left the station in 1907 on Virginian’s line. The station continued to serve passengers until 1968. After Seaboard Coast Line merged with Chessie, the station served CSX as a freight office. It burned in 1994 and was nearly lost forever. Local history and rail fans managed to save and refurbish the station. It now is a museum with an outstanding HO railroad model of 1907 Suffolk. I remember boarding a train here in the ‘60s to visit a friend in Henderson NC. It was my first train ride. These photos were taken in 1995.
