Fountain speed pursuit - 1995

WASHINGTON NC — In 1995, Reggie Fountain brought speed freaks and speedboat aficionados to the top end of the Pamlico River in the pursuit of a world speed record. Lots of hot boats going very, very fast up and down the river off Whichards Beach that weekend. Here is a peek at a few of them. That’s Reggie in the orange helmet. Fountain broke two record with two boats in less than an hour. He set the Super V-bottom world kilo record in inXS by making two-way run at an average 218.118mph. He then broke that record in Ohio Steel at 130.246 mph averaged run. Fountain’s company made both boats.  The more familiar open cockpit boat they were famous for is also seen here.
