Norfolk Southern northbound 

WASHINGTON, NC — This late-1987 Norfolk Southern freight is headed toward Pinetown and Plymouth on its regular run.  This GP30 is a now long-retired veteran of the Southern days. It is seen here crossing Jacks Creek.  Below left is the train pulling through the River Road intersection at Havens Garden. A friendly conductor waves and enjoys a cup of coffee. Bottom right is the Christmas greeting Hugh and Liz Sterling hung by their back fence that was alongside the track at the foot of the trestle.
